New Beginnings

Well here goes……..

This is my first blog ever.  This seems a little harder than I thought it would be. So i’m hoping that as I start typing, the words will just start flowing and will fill up this space.

I think this blog will initially start off with lots about my current training program, which is for Comrades 2014 as this is my main focus now. But before I go there I’d like to mention a few things about this blog.

I’m hoping that my ‘online public journal’ will attract people and followers of all ages, race, colour, creed, fitness levels, activity levels and even the inactive.  I would like everyone to find something here that they can either relate to, draw inspiration from and be motivated by. Whether you are at your peak, your most fittest, your most strongest and feel you’re in your best shape ever. Or, you are sitting around contemplating your next move, reluctant to commit to that start date. This blog is for you!

This training year has just started and has been different to the previous years.  I only started running again in January after being off since October 2013 because of surgery. So as I slowing build up my mileage and look forward to running my first marathon and my longest run since June last year, the feelings of apprehension and everything else that goes with the race preparations, are slowly dawning on me.  Yes this may sound really funny and crazy, as I’ve run so many marathons I’ve lost count!

The other thing I need to get seriously on-board with, is my nutrition plan. Yes I have a nutritional plan too.  And yes I do follow it strictly, but I just need to put more effort into eating more of the raw veggies.  I don’t know why i’m struggling with this right now. I guess its the adjustment to my new home environment (being childless) and re-learning to cook for two people. Lately we’ve been eating or ordering out more often than i’ve been preparing meals at home.  Most of our local restaurant menus all have salads on them but this is normally just a whole lot of dark green sad lettuce leaves, two slices of cucumber, few super thin carrot slices and lots of tomato (I don’t eat raw tomatoes). If you order a greek salad they’ll throw in 4 olives and 3 cubes of feta cheese. So I end up chomping mostly on lettuce leaves for my salad dinner, sadly!  So yes, its back to my home-made salads where I throw every raw vegetable I can find in my fridge, into the salad. There’s been occasions that i’ve added fruit too.  Why, you ask! Well there’s a reason for this.  There’s a reason for everything I do! I figure this way I can eat at least half of my veggie quota and have a yummy salad!

Running is on track and now the eating will be too.  Looking forward to March training month……………..
